distance on the surface of the Earth to the Equator—^from Oto E, is the same as from the Equator to the Sun in the heavens—E to S. Multiplying 45 by 60 (60 Geographical miles equalI degree), we get 2,700 Geographical miles as the distance fromO to E, and thus from E to S. The Sun is, therefoee, 2,700MILES DISTANT FROM THE Eaeth. If the Sun Were 96,000,000miles distant from the Earth, our observer at 45 degrees N. orS. latitude would be that distance from the Equator!!! "»

Another Zetetic, the late Editor of " The Earth (nota Globe) Review," known as "Zetetes," has written anable paper on the distance of the Sun, the whole of whichis too long for insertion here, so I must content myselfby quoting only the preliminary part, which, however,is sufficient to show that " Zetetes " considers the Sun tobe about three thousand miles distant from the Earth.

"But take the time of the vernal and autumnal equinox, when the Sun is directly over the Equator. We will also takethe Astronomer's assumption that the light of the Sun travelsin straight lines, except just near the surface of the Earth, when they sometimes allow for what is termed refraction. Butas they have no agreed and definite standard of refraction, and what they do sometimes allow is only a small figure, wemay at present ignore this for the purpose of simplifying theproblem before us. They cannot reasonably object to ourfollowing their lead here.

"Now it is a well-known property that all the angles ofany triangle are together equal to two right angles, or 180degrees. If, then, we take any right-angled triangle as A, B, Chaving one angle at the base B a right angle, and the otherangle at the base C 45 degrees we know that the angle at the
